The Loures Riverside Trail is a wooden walkway 6.1 km long, 3.5 meters wide, and supported by 4,612 piles, designed to ensure stability and durability in an area of high ecological sensitivity.

This infrastructure connects the municipalities of Loures and Lisbon—between Santa Iria de Azóia and Parque das Nações—extending to Vila Franca de Xira, following the Tagus estuary and promoting a continuous connection to the river, while reinforcing soft mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The geotechnical complexity of the soil, characteristic of marshland areas, required adaptations to the initial design, particularly in terms of the foundations, demanding specific technical solutions to ensure the structural stability and durability of the infrastructure. These adjustments contributed to an increase in the overall cost of the project, along with rising raw material prices.

The route includes:

➡ 10 bridges

➡ 14 shade tunnels

➡ 4 observation bridges

➡ 1,621 trees planted

➡ 41,420 shrubs

Built mainly on the river marsh, the walkway provides a privileged approach to the riverside ecosystem and several birdwatching spots, while promoting leisure, well-being, and contact with nature.

PMT ensured the supervision and technical monitoring of the project, guaranteeing strict compliance with the project, applicable technical standards, and environmental requirements associated with an intervention in an ecologically sensitive area.

In a context marked by geotechnical and construction challenges, PMT's intervention was decisive in:

➡ monitoring the execution of foundations and structures on marshy ground;

➡ ensuring the conformity of construction materials and processes;

➡ verifying compliance with environmental requirements and the protection of the riverside ecosystem;

➡ control deadlines, quality, and safety on site;

➡ support the technical resolution of constraints arising from ground conditions.

PMT's work contributed to the delivery of a safe, durable, and environmentally responsible infrastructure, in line with good engineering practices and the objectives of sustainable mobility and land enhancement.
