PMT reviewed the Implementation Project for the rehabilitation and expansion program of the Hydrographic Institute, located at Quinta da Azinheira, in the municipality of Seixal. The IH-SENSORTECH project focuses on the functional and technological enhancement of two key buildings in the complex—the Maritime Instrumentation Center (CIM) and Pavilion No. 2 (Paiol das Boias)—in addition to the redevelopment of the outdoor space adjacent to the mill.

Maritime Instrumentation Center (CIM)

The project involved the expansion of the building, with the construction of a new structure and the redesign of existing areas. The intervention included:

➡ creation of new offices and administrative areas;

➡ installation of a piloting center;

➡ implementation of a new laboratory;

➡ creation of a kitchen, sanitary facilities, showers, and changing rooms;

➡ new technical areas for servers and electrical panels.

The expansion also allowed for the integration of an autonomous vehicle laboratory and the installation of a mobile overhead crane, a determining factor for the total height of the building.

Pavilion No. 2 – Buoy Storage

In this building, the project includes the partial construction of a raised floor for the installation of new offices and work areas. On the ground floor, the central area is to be reorganized, including:

➡ creation of independent access to the facilities;

➡ installation of a storage area for larger equipment.

These interventions reinforce the functionality of the building and the operational capacity of the Hydrographic Institute.

With the technical review of the PMT, the IH-SENSORTECH project benefited from greater technical robustness, safety, functional optimization, and risk reduction during the construction phase, ensuring the modernization of strategic equipment for the study and monitoring of the Portuguese maritime environment.
