PMT CEO featured in Valor Magazine: “Perseverance, rigor, and exceptional people have shaped our identity.”

Valor Magazine interviewed PMT's CEO for a conversation about the company's journey, the current challenges facing engineering, and the growing importance of skilled teams in a constantly changing sector.

From the outset, PMT has built its path on three pillars that remain to this day: perseverance, technical rigor, and a united team. The CEO recalls the early days, marked by difficulties and demanding decisions, but also by unwavering motivation: "There were days when I literally had €1 in my bank account, but I never gave up. And I was never alone. I was lucky to find exceptional professionals who were committed from day one and helped build the culture of collective commitment that sets us apart today."

This culture—based on closeness, respect, and people's well-being—is now one of PMT's main strengths, supported by a management team that works daily to promote healthy and collaborative environments.

An integrated approach with the client

In the interview, she also highlights PMT's vision regarding working with clients. For the company, designing, supervising, or managing a project means working side by side with those who conceive it.

The project does not belong to the designers, it belongs to the customer. Our role is to transform needs into solutions, and this only happens when the customer actively participates in all phases.

This approach allows us to create solutions tailored to reality, the use of space, and the expectations of those who will operate it.

Technical versatility and adaptability

PMT's portfolio includes public and private works, ranging from housing to nurseries, hotels, service buildings, and large-scale infrastructure. This diversity demonstrates the company's ability to take on different challenges, while maintaining the same commitment: to deliver efficient, safe, and technically sound solutions.

Whether we are designing a house, supervising a hotel, or monitoring public infrastructure, the goal is always to do it well”, emphasizes Manuela Timóteo.

Training talent as a strategy for the future

At a time when the sector continues to face a shortage of skilled labor, PMT is investing in continuous training—both internal and external—as a strategic tool for developing talent.

We believe that even those who arrive less prepared can evolve. The important thing is to create conditions for learning, growing, and reaching maximum technical potential.

An evolving sector that still needs modernization

Manuela Timóteo also highlights the challenges that persist in the engineering and construction market. Although activity has increased, this does not mean stability.

The lack of process modernization—particularly in the Public Contracts Code—and the almost exclusive focus on price continue to hamper the competitiveness of companies that consistently invest in quality, certifications, and technical training.

Just as there is a system of classes and licenses for contractors, there should be something similar for inspection and design companies. Price cannot be the only criterion.
