PMT was responsible for supervising the redevelopment of the Vila das Taipas Civic Center, a structural intervention in the public space surrounding Avenida da República, Largo das Thermas, and Avenida Trajano Augusto, in Guimarães.

The main objective of the project was to transform and enhance the central public space, promoting greater urban quality and creating a more functional, attractive, and inclusive civic center for residents, visitors, and local economic agents.

Goals of the intervention

The redevelopment of the Vila das Taipas Civic Center sought to:

➡ Expand and reorganize the urban center through a set of distinct but interconnected spaces, each with its own vocation and strong capacity to attract pedestrian traffic;

➡ Redefine mobility by eliminating the road intersection that fragmented the central space, promoting a balanced coexistence between leisure, commerce, and services;

➡ Prioritize pedestrian traffic, reducing conflicts with car traffic and reinforcing the urbanity of the public space;

➡ Enhance the identity and memory of the place, associated with the presence of water resources, namely the thermal waters, the proximity of the Ave River, and the Ribeira da Canhota.

Regarding supervision, PMT ensured rigorous technical monitoring of the work, guaranteeing compliance with the project, deadlines, quality requirements, and safety conditions, contributing to the redevelopment of a central and historically significant public space.
